Range Options

Timeline displays plenty of statistics aggregated from your data as histograms. However, you may want to narrow the exploration area to focus on timelines with the most significant values. Use range options available for each histogram:

Min/Max
Covers all values presented in the set. That means the lowest and the highest metric values are the boundaries of the range. By default, the program displays all the data from the currently selected set - from minimum to maximum values.
75 percentile
With this option, you get the range with 50% of timelines belonging to the middle of histogram values.
How the program calculates 75 percentile range
The program gets the resulting timelines by joining two ranges:

The first range starts from the minimum histogram value and goes up until the range includes 75% of selected timelines.

The second range starts from the maximum histogram value and goes down until the range includes 75% of selected timelines.

Important. Timelines with values on the boundaries are included in the range.

Both ranges are rounded up as histogram values are determined by values appearing in timelines. For example, N and K are histogram values going one after another on the histogram. 70% of timelines belong to the range from minimum to N histogram value. 80% of timelines belong to the range from minimum to K histogram value. As the range is rounded up, the K value will determine a range. That is why the resulting 75 percentile range may include more than 50% of timelines.

90 percentile
With this option, you get the range with 80% of timelines belonging to the middle of histogram values.
How the program calculates 90 percentile range
The program gets the resulting timelines by joining two ranges:

The first range starts from the minimum histogram value and goes up until the range includes 90% of selected timelines.

The second range starts from the maximum histogram value and goes down until the range includes 90% of selected timelines.

Important. Timelines with values on the boundaries are included in the range.

Both ranges are rounded up as histogram values are determined by values appearing in timelines. For example, N and K are histogram values going one after another on the histogram. 85% of timelines belong to the range from minimum to N histogram value. 92% of timelines belong to the range from minimum to K histogram value. As the resulting range is rounded up, the K value will determine a range. That is why the resulting 90 percentile range may include more than 80% of timelines.

Important. Ranges options are calculation presets - when you first select the option, the program displays ranges according to the rules. However, if you change boundaries manually, you see another statistic but the range name remains the same.
