How to Configure Chart
Before you begin
Charts are based on existing configurations of Metrics or Aggregations used as a Source type:
- Metric
Uses a single metric to build a graphical representation.
The Metric for the chart can be created during its configuration, or it can be selected from the list of existing ones. For details and steps of metric creation, see Metrics. - Aggregations
Allows building a diagram based on one metric and one Dimension from an existing Aggregations configuration.
The Aggregations need to be created in advance, for instructions, see Aggregations.
How to configure
The list of accessible chart settings may vary depending on the chosen Source type, the type of the selected Metric, and also the type of the chart itself. The instructions below cover the general configuration steps, applicable to any of the previously mentioned selections.
- Open the Chart list. To do this, click > Project configuration > Charts.
- Open Chart Editor by clicking + Create.
- Name
Enter a name for the new chart to be displayed in charts' lists. This field is Mandatory. - Type
Select the chart visualization form. Click on the type name in the list below to go to the settings description. - Number
Shows a numeric value of a metric. - Line chart
Displays a line graph of the chosen metric's values distribution, with a metric value on the Y-axis and time range on the X-axis. - Bar chart
Displays a histogram of the chosen metric's values distribution broken down by Dimensions (pairs of event and attribute), with a metric value on the Y-axis and Dimension value on the X-axis. - Pie chart
Displays a circular diagram of a metric broken down by Dimensions. The entire pie is 100 percent of a metric value, and its slices represent chosen dimensions. - Combination
Allows displaying both Line chart and Bar chart based on different metrics in one view for comparison. - Source type
Select what to base the chart on: Metrics or Aggregations. The Metrics source type is set by default. - Metric
This field is mandatory. Click the field and select the metric from the drop-down list to base a chart on it. The list of available metrics is formed automatically and depends on the selected Source type. - If you selected Metrics as the Source type, then the list will contain all available metrics that are created in the current project.
You can also create new metrics right from Chart editor. Click three vertical dots next to the Provide a metric name... field to open the Metric list window. In this window, you can see all metrics, created in the current project, edit them and create new ones. - If you selected Aggregations in the Source type, then the list will contain only metrics included in the current aggregations' configuration.
- Time range
Define the interval the chart data should fall within:
a. All time from the uploaded data. This is the time interval from the earliest to the latest, which can be found in the timestamp field of the timelines.
b. Certain period between the selected dates.
c. Current, previous, or sliding period from daily to yearly. Choose the Up to last datapoint option to use the latest timeline timestamp as the maximum.
If you defined a certain period, the Include timeline if time range contains setting becomes available. Expand the section below to learn more about this setting.Include timeline if time range contains
- Further settings depend on the selected metric Type. For detailed instructions, see Chart types settings.
- Add a description for the chart that will help you identify it in other tools, such as Dashboard.
- Chart title
Define a name to be displayed on the chart. - Subtitle
Add an additional name to clarify the chart's purpose. Can be helpful if you, for example, have look-alike charts based on the same data, but with different settings. - Description
Give more details about the chart's settings and the data it is based on. Can be regarded as a "legend". - Check that the chart configuration meets your needs with the help of a preview on the right.
- Click Save.
