Dialog Box: Advanced Settings

To open this dialog box, click the Advanced Settings... button on the PDF (PDF, PDF/A, PDF/E) dialog box.

Allows you to select one of the five PDF types:

  • Text only
    The recognized text is saved as text. Images and the original document design (font, background and layout marking) are not retained.
  • Text and pictures only
    The recognized text is saved as text, and the images are saved as images. The original document design (font, background and layout marking) is not retained.
  • Text over the page image
    The entire image is saved as a picture. Text areas are saved as text over the image.
  • Page image over the text
    The entire image is saved as a picture. The recognized text is put under it. This option is useful if you export your text to document archives: the full page layout is retained and the full-text search is available if you save in this mode.
  • Image only
    The entire image is saved as a picture. The recognized text and layout information are not used in this mode, so the recognition stage may be skipped.

Fast Web View

If this option is selected, the PDF document will be loaded from the web server one page at a time for comfortable online viewing. This is useful for very large documents which may take quite some time to load.

Note. This option works for PDF documents that contain more than one page.

Note. This option does not work for PDF documents created from Office documents.

Create PDF tags If this option is selected, information about the structure of the document will be saved to the PDF file.
Attach source files

If this option is selected, the original documents will be attached to their respective output PDF documents.

Note. This option is available if you choose PDF v. 1.7  or PDF/A-3 as output.

Note. This option is ignored if original PDF documents are to be sent to the Output folder without any changes (or if only their text layer is changed).

PDF/UA compatible Makes the selected PDF saving standard compatible with the PDF/Universal Accessibility standard.
Create a 2-layer PDF If this option is selected, the program will create an image layer and a text layer in the PDF document. This option can only be selected if Page image over the text is selected in the Mode drop-down list.

By default, a source page size is retained during export. Enable this option and select a different page size from the list:

  • A3
  • A4
  • A5
  • Legal
  • Letter
  • Executive
  • Custom
Use Windows fonts

If a document contains fonts which are not available to the program, it will substitute such fonts with other fonts. In this drop-down list, you can select which fonts to use for substitution:

  • Use predefined fonts will cause the program to choose from a set of fourteen main fonts
    • Times (normal, italic, bold, and bold italic)
    • Courier (normal, italic, bold, and bold italic)
    • Helvetica (normal, italic, bold, and bold italic)
    • Symbol
    • Zapf Dingbats

The output file will be correctly displayed on any computer with a PDF viewing application installed.

  • Use Windows fonts (selected by default) will cause the program to choose from the fonts currently available to the operating system. The text of the output file may be displayed incorrectly running a different operating system.
Embed fonts The fonts will be embedded into the output file, so that its text always looks exactly the same. Enabling this option will increase the size of the output file.
Formatting (applies to recognized texts only)
Create links for URL and e-mail addresses URL and e-mail addresses found in the text will be converted to hyperlinks.
Remove headers, footers, and page numbers Headers, footers, and page numbers found in the text will be deleted.
