Tutorial
This section provides basic information about working with the FlexiCapture SDK. For advanced details, see the Advanced Techniques section.
ABBYY FlexiCapture 12 SDK can be configured for automated input of structured ("fixed") forms and semi-structured ("flexible") documents:
Structured forms |
Definition: These are documents containing a set of marked information fields whose formatting, number, and layout do not change from one document to another. Such documents are also called fixed forms. Example: Most questionnaires and application forms. Such forms are usually distributed as blank forms and are filled out by hand. Show exampleHow to extract data: You need to create a fixed layout that will tell the program where to look for the fields with the data to be extracted. Such forms are designed with the help of ABBYY FormDesigner 12 (supplied together with ABBYY FlexiCapture 12). Instructions for creating fixed layouts are available in ABBYY FlexiCapture 12 Help. |

Semi-structured documents |
Definition: These documents contain a set of information fields whose design, number, and layout may vary significantly from document to document. These documents are also called flexible documents. Example: Bills, since they often vary both in terms of the number of items and their formatting due to the fact that they are received from different companies. All bills have a bill number and an amount due for payment, but are located in different places. Show exampleHow to extract data: You need to create a flexible layout (FlexiLayout) with the help of ABBYY FlexiLayout Studio (supplied together with ABBYY FlexiCapture 12). Instructions for creating flexible layouts are available in ABBYY FlexiCapture 12 Help. |
