How to Record User Activity
The process of recording and collecting user actions can be divided into several steps:
- Install required components on target machines.
This includes deploying Recording Service and Recorder instances. Follow Recording Service and Recorder installation scenarios to complete the required stages. - Start recording for Recorder instances via Recording Service UI.
After you make sure that Recorder instances correspond to the required preconditions, you can initiate recording of user activity. See How to Start Recording to learn more. - See the logs of user actions that Recording Service collects.
When recording is in progress, Recorder captures user activity and transmits it to Recording Service. Recording Service collects, processes and stores user actions as logs.
Before you start recording
The following conditions are mandatory to start a recording successfully:
- Recorders are installed in the Server managed mode.
You should see a recorder instance in the list on the Recorders tab. - Recorders have online status on the Recorders page.
- Recording on the target machine is not disabled by a user.
By default, Recorder instance enables capturing user activities on computers. However, a user can block recordings on their machines manually. To learn more, see Enabling and Disabling Recorder Instances.
Note. The assigned Template may also affect the recording process. Pay attention to the Start recording when assigned to recorder option. See Configuring and Applying Templates to learn more.
Terminating a recording
Use Recording Service to stop recording for one or multiple Recorder instances. Follow the How to Stop Recording section to finish the recording of user activity.
