Basic Installation Scenarios

In all the scenarios described below you need first to install ABBYY FineReader Engine on the workstation, then install the Licensing Service, and finally, set up the license which permits you to use the library.

You will need:

  • if you are using a Network License: your network license server connection details.
  • if you are using an Online protection: an Online License token file and the password to this file. It is recommended to install the token file with the library, although it is not required.
  • if you are using a Software protection: the serial number of your license.
  • if you are using a Hardware protection: a USB dongle with license parameters.

The ABBYY FineReader Engine folder structure after automatic installation contains:

Folder name Description
<FRE_installation_directory> A folder with the ABBYY FineReader Engine files specified during installation.
<FREngineDataFolder> A folder for storing the user-specific data. By default, /var/lib/ABBYY/SDK/12/FineReader Engine.
<LicensesFolder> A folder for storing the Licensing Service files. After installation, It can be specified via the LicensingSettings.xml file or via API. By default, /var/lib/ABBYY/SDK/12/Licenses.
<FREngineTempFolder> A folder for storing the ABBYY FineReader Engine temporary files. By default, /tmp/ABBYY FineReader Engine 12.
Note: To change the paths to <FREngineDataFolder>, <LicensesFolder> and <FREngineTempFolder> folders, use the InitializeEngine function.
